Anika Ganesh, President & Founder

From a young age, activities involving movement have always been my way of connecting with people, particularly through dance and music. Dance, in particular, has taught me to appreciate diverse rhythms and express myself through movement. I've discovered that creating rhythms and moving to the beat can bring people closer together, fostering a sense of community and helping us recall cherished memories while creating new ones. Through these experiences, I've learned the profound impact of movement and rhythm in building connections and enriching lives.

In her later years, my connection with my grandma was strengthened through music, creating precious moments I cherish deeply. I strive to recreate similar experiences when I volunteer at memory care facilities, bringing joy and comfort through the universal language of music using "Memory Disco™" program. My commitment to life enrichment through movement and music has further strengthened when I hear testimonials from caregivers about bringing smiles back to their loved ones' faces.

Brianna Carrion, Vice President

Hello, I’m Brianna!! I’m a high school student with a love for all things music and volunteering. I’ve been in choir for four years, am learning guitar, and have been volunteering with Musical Memories since summer of 2024. One of the main reasons I love volunteering with Musical Memories is how you can see the difference you’re making in real time, watching people light up as I connect with them through music is something that has truly shaped my view of people forever. Everyone just wants to be understood, and the universal language of music helps us do just that, leaving a positive impact with each and every note. This organization and its volunteers have truly made the world a better place, and in each event they host, vulnerable people get the opportunity to socialize, smile, and have fun with us!

Ivanna Santiago, Secretary

I’m originally from Venezuela, and I moved to the US when I was 6. I enjoy music and reading, and my main goal in life is to hopefully go into the medical field in the future! Why I wanted to join: Music has been a huge part of my live ever since I can remember, as I’ve always enjoyed singing and dancing. I’ve also always fostered a passion for science and the art of medicine. This organization has found an incredibly innovative and beautiful way to combine two of my biggest passions to help the cognitive health of dementia patients, all while having fun!

Fun Fact: I’ve read over 100 romance books!

Avishi Rai, Treasurer

Hi! I’m Avishi, an incoming sophomore at Seven Lakes High School. Music has always been a big part of my life, as I’m entering my 5th year of choir. Choir has brought me so much joy, connections, and a strong sense of community. Spreading this happiness is what inspired me to join this initiative. I’m proud to be a part of an organization that aims to contribute to the community and make a positive impact. Knowing the fact that I have the chance to brighten someone's day through music brightens my own day.

A fun fact about me is that I have a 1600 day Duolingo streak!

Saranya Banerjee, Parliamentarian

Hi, I’m Saranya! I’m a senior at seven lakes high school, and a member of the Seven Lakes choir for all 4 years. I’ve met so many people through choir with music, and I absolutely love music. Since it’s such a huge part of my life both in and outside of school, I appreciated the opportunity to spread awareness about this disease using music, which is why I love this foundation and the good it does for the community.

A fun fact about me is that I have a black belt in taekwondo!

Viji Alur, Adult volunteer coordinator

As the Adult Volunteer Coordinator for Musical Memories Katy, I oversee and guide the youth volunteers who participate in Memory Disco programs at local memory care facilities. I serve as the primary liaison between our student volunteers, facility staff, and families, ensuring that each event runs smoothly, safely, and meaningfully.

With a focus on creating intergenerational connections, I supervise student engagement during musical activities, provide on-site support and direction, and help foster an environment where young volunteers learn empathy, leadership, and the joy of service. I also help onboard new volunteers, model respectful interaction with seniors living with memory loss, and work closely with the Musical Memories leadership team to continually enhance our impact.
